A Smaller Circle

I am not trying to meet everyone. I am choosing more carefully who gets my time.

I have been thinking about the size of my circle.

Mine has always been smaller than people expect. I do not meet everyone, and I do not want to. My time is not an open invitation. My attention is not something I give away simply because someone asks for it.

That is not arrogance. It is discernment. I have learned that the people around me affect the way I feel, the way I think, and the kind of energy I carry home with me.

Before I meet someone, I notice how they communicate. Are they clear? Are they respectful? Do they understand that a direct message can still have warmth and consideration behind it? There is a difference between confidence and entitlement. There is a difference between being honest and being careless.

Etiquette matters to me. So does tone. A person can be playful without being disrespectful, curious without being invasive, and direct without turning the conversation into a game.

I am not interested in games. Not the kind where someone disappears, tests boundaries, sends a message only to provoke a reaction, or expects me to chase their attention. I have too much respect for my time to participate in that.

I prefer people who say what they mean and understand that consideration is attractive. Someone who can make a clear request. Someone who knows how to listen. Someone who respects a no without turning it into a personal challenge.

These days I am choosing quality over quantity. I would rather spend an evening with one interesting, thoughtful person than divide my attention between several people who bring noise and confusion with them.

The best companionship leaves you feeling more like yourself, not less. It gives you room to be present. It does not demand that you perform, prove yourself, or keep explaining where your boundaries are.

Sometimes I even consider making my circle smaller. Not because I am closing myself off, but because I am becoming more precise about what I allow into my life. There is peace in no longer needing to be available to everyone.

A smaller circle can hold more honesty. More ease. More genuine warmth. It can leave space for the people who know how to arrive with respect and stay with good energy.

That is what I want around me now. Clear communication. Good manners. Mutual respect. Real presence.

A small circle, clear boundaries, and quality company. That is enough for me.
